In addition to saying “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajioon” upon hearing of a Muslim’s death, it is also praiseworthy to say:
Allahummaj al-kitabahu fi illiyiin waktubhu ‘inndaka minal muhsinin wakhlufhu fi ahlihi fil ghabirin waghfirlana walaghu ya Rabbal’alamin.
‘Oh Allah place his record in illiyin, record him as a man of excellence (muhsinin), provide a successor for him in caring for his family in the ephemeral world, and forgive us and him, oh Lord of the Worlds’.
When burying the dead and placing three handfuls of dirt upon the body it is recommended to say:
1st handful: Minha khalaqnaakum (from it We created you)
2nd handful:Wa fiiha nu’iiydukum (and in it We will return you)
3rd handful: Wa minha nukhrijukum taa ra ta ukhraa (and from it shall We bring you forth another time).
This is from Surah TaHa 20:55.
Shaykh Abdal Karim mentioned these, they are not written in the book.
